Cedar, often referred to as "The Tree of Life", is one of the most important materials for the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest. Cedar is burned to smudge away bad energies - it cleanses the body, mind, and souls in the smoke, and with it send their prayers to Creator.

They burn this dried plant to cleanse their bodies, hair, spirit, and environment in the smoke, also known as Smudging. The smoke carries their prayers to Creator and their Ancestors. They Smudge when they need to heal, pray, celebrate, or cleanse their environments.
