Heartberry Soda
Brand: Heartberry Soda
Product Description
Heartberry Soda converges Indigenous culture and the craft of soda brewing. Rooted in Indigenous knowledge and tradition, their mission is to honour Indigenous heritage while offering delicious sodas that utilize local plants.
They prioritize low-sugar and low-calorie options—mindful of the prevalence of diabetes in native communities. Whether you’re sober-curious or seek a low-sugar, low-calorie cocktail mixer, their sodas offer a nutrient-rich refreshment meant to be enjoyed on their own terms.
Heartberry Soda is founded by Nadine Jopson, a Plains Cree member of the Alexander Cree Nation
Lemon & Birch Bark Soda
Citrusy lemon is made earthy alongside the woodsy flavour of Birch Bark, brewed into a concentrated tea with a mild wintergreen taste. Plant-based Xylitol made from Birch sap produces the sweetness in this soda without resorting to refined sugars.
Ingredients: Water, Lemon Juice, Birch Bark, Xylitol, Organic Cane Sugar, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate
Raspberry & Fireweed Soda
The delicate sweetness of fresh raspberries is balanced out by refreshing Ihkapaskwa—also known as fireweed giving this soda its revitalizing flavour. Lavender is also added to enhance its floral profile.
Ingredients: Water, 100% Natural Pressed and Pasteurized Raspberry Juice, Cane Sugar, Xylitol, Fireweed, Lemon Juice, Lavender Flower, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate
Ginger & Rosehip Soda
Gently acidic, and slightly floral, spicy ginger beer, hibiscus, and rose hips (the “fruit” of the rose) combine to create a soda that’s tart and crisp in taste, and rich in vitamin C.
Rosehips are used widely by the Shoshone, Crow, Anishnabee (Ojibway), Nîhithaw (Woodland Cree), Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) and more for soothing sore throats and solving indigestion.
Ingredients: Water, Ginger root, Sugar, Xylitol, Allspice, Star anise, Hibiscus, Citric Acid, Pure almond extract (water, alcohol, and oil of bitter almond), Sodium Benzoate, Rose hips, Rose water (water, rose flavour), Cloves (whole cloves)
